Protectionism is not a solution in terms of growth and employment
M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, President of TOBB, who made a speech at the meeting “Approaching 9th WTO Ministerial Conference: Expectations from the World Trade Organization” which was held at TEPAV with the participation of Pascal Lamy, General Director of WTO, stated that it was meaningless for countries to take shelter under protectionist policies for the purpose of caring for their national industries, and said, “Our experiences proved that protectionism is not a solution in terms of growth and employment. Protectionism does not improve competitive power, or increase productivity".

A cooperation agreement is signed with Stockholm University
Stockholm University Turkey Studies Institute was opened with a ceremony honored by the President Abdullah Gül and His Majesty Carl XVI. Gustaf, King of Sweden. The ceremony was also attended by M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, President of TOBB, Prof. Astrid Söderbergh Widding, Vice-president of Stockholm University, Ahmed Davutoğlu, the Turkish Foreign Minister, Carl Bildt, the Swedish Foreign Minister, Prof. Levin, Director of Turkey Studies Institute, and Prof. Dr. Güven Sak, Vice-president of TOBB ETÜ.

"Our women athletes will encourage young girls towards sports"

Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu congratulated the Vakıfbank Sports Club Women's Volleyball Team for their victory against Rabita Baku representing Azerbaijan in the finals match of the European Volleyball Confederation (Confédération Européenne de Volleyball - CEV) Women's Championship League.

"We are lessened by the passing of Metin Serezli"
TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu published a message offering his condolences for the passing of the theatre artist, Metin Serezli. Stating that Serezli has been an important value for Turkish theatre and cinema, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, "His loss has greatly saddened the art community and our nation."
