Attending the Ceyhan Business Development Center (CEYGEM) Foundation Ceremony, the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “Oil should not only pass through Ceyhan, Ceyhan needs to be a oil depot.”

Stating that ceyhan was one of Turkey’s counties with its star shining, TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu said that Ceyhan was being referred to as “the Rotterdam of Turkey” meaning “the crossroads of energy corridors”.

Thanks to the The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) Crude Oil Pipeline, Azerbaijani petroleum was being distributed to the world from the county of Ceyhan similar to the Kirkuk-Mosul-Ceyhan which had been functioning for years.

Saying that the feasibility studies for the Samsun-Ceyhan crude oil pipeline had been completed, TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu, “When the Samsun line is completed Ceyhan will receive 170 million tons of petroleum. This means almost 7% of the world’s petroleum consumption will be located in Ceyhan. Ceyhan will be one of the main arteries of oil in the coming days. The world exchange will be monitored and the energy market will be established from Ceyhan.”

Stating that only transporting oil would be to waste its processing potential, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “Oil should not just pass through Ceyhan, Ceyhan needs to be an oil depot,” and went on:
“We must increase Ceyhan refinery capacity. Petrochemical facilities also need to be established. Only through added value can you profit. Just acting the host is not enough. We most certainly must be producing oil derivatives here. Refineries, petrochemical facilities, thermal plants, petroleum and natural gas storage facilities must urgently be constructed in this area. Otherwise we can only transport oil to ships on the end of the pipeline. We will not receive added value.”

Drawing attention to the inactivity of the Ceyhan Energy Specialization Industry Zone, TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that it must also start operations as soon as possible.
Stating that CEYGEM will provide consultation services to companies, Hisarcıklıoğlu added that this would support companies’ forays into international business.
