Free Zones Presidential Council Election held

The electioral meeting of the Presidential Council of the Turkish Free Zones Council of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) was chaired by TOBB Vice President responsible for the Council Ayhan Zeytinoğlu and TOBB Board Member M. Cihat Lokmanoğlu.​

TOBB Vice President Ayhan ZeytinoÄŸlu, noting that the pandemic is more challenging than previous crises, stated that TOBB has taken an active role in this process; a list of 70-item proposals was communicated to the public administration and most of the proposals were fulfilled, both Breath Credits and Credit Guarantee Fund supports have served to lessen adverse effects.

TOBB Board Member M. Cihat LokmanoÄŸlu also said in his opening speech that the Sector Assemblies have been the platform which brings together public, private sector and non-governmental organizations operating since 2006 on a legal basis, that TOBB has mobilized all its opportunities for solving sectoral problems in the pandemic process and that the problems that come within this scope have been transferred to public institutions, and expressed his wishes for the new era of the Council to be auspicious.

As a result of the election, Mersin Free Zone Founder and Operator Inc. (MESBAŞ) General Manager Edvar Mum was elected as Council President; Bilgen Salih Narlı, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aegean Free Zone Industrialists and Businessmen's Association (ESBİAD), was elected unanimously as Council Vice President.

Council President Edvar Mum, noting that Turkey Free Zones trade volumes have been in general decline compared to 2019, but in June trading volumes tend to recover. He emphasized that instead of perceiving free zones as competitors to the Turkish industry, their contributions to the economy should be underlined.
