TOBB ETU became one of the best universities in the world

9 universities in Turkey, including the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey Economy and Technology University (TOBB ETU), have succeeded in entering the top 500 universities of the world rankings of at least one of the 11 institutions which are primarily engaged in determining rankings.​

The report prepared by the METU Informatics Institute URAP (University Ranking by Academic Performance) shows situation of Turkish universities in the 2018 overall standings, determining the success of universities in Turkey.

Accordingly, the report included the latest status of 173 Turkish universities in 11 different world general rankings published in 2018 for university administrators, academicians, students and those who follow the developments in higher education.

The 11 ranking institutions in which Turkish universities are included in 2018 are listed as Webometrics, SCIMago, US News and World Report, QS, THE, Leiden (CWTS), CWUR, RUR, ARWU, NTU and METU Informatics Institute URAP Laboratory.

According to the report, there are 9 universities which have ranked in at least one top global 500 rankings of 2018. METU ranked 4th, Boğaziçi ranked 3rd, İstanbul ranked 3rd, Koç ranked 3rd, Sabancı ranked 3rd, İTÜ ranked 2nd, Hacettepe ranked 2nd, Bilkent ranked 2nd and TOBB-ETU ranked 1st in at least one of the top 500 in this ranking.

According to the report, there are 17 Turkish universities in at least 7 out of 11 world rankings. Hacettepe, Istanbul, ITU and METU entered rankings in 11 of the 11 world rankings. Gazi, Boğaziçi and Bilkent were among the top 10 rankings out of 11 while Ankara University was ranked in 9 of 11 world rankings.

Erciyes, Dokuz Eylul and Ataturk universities ranked in 8 rankings, while Ege, Yıldız Technical, Marmara, Çukurova, Koç and Sabancı universities were included in the 7 rankings. In 2018, 20 universities entered rankings in 6; 27 entered rankings in 5; 40 entered rankings in 4; 74 entered rankings in 3 and 94 entered rankings in 2. The number of universities that could enter only one ranking (Webometrics) was 78 this year.
