13.07.2018 / Ankara

Students of TOBB University of Economics and Technology (TOBB ETU) held a meaningful ceremony for their friend who was killed during the traitorous coup attempt of July 15th, 2016. TOBB ETU students planted a sycamore sapling on July 15th in memory of Law School Student Ömer Can Açıkgöz, who was killed a few hundred meters away from the university. In addition, July 15th Photography Exhibition was opened at TOBB ETÜ in cooperation with the Anadolu Agency (AA).

Following a moment of silence in memory of the martyrs, the ceremony held at TOBB ETU on the occasion of July 15th National Unity and Solidarity Day began with the singing of the National Anthem. Speaking at the ceremony, Vice-Rector. Dr. Yusuf Sarınay stated that history is witness to a myriad of the foreign powers attempting to establish dominance over Anatolia, and that the Turkish nation has foiled all their plots. Professor Dr. Sarınay stated that July 15th was the latest attempt among these and that the coup and invasion was repulsed at the expense of the nation's blood and life.
