TOBB and TOBB ETU Board of Trustees President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu met with a group of students who were placed in the first 100 for the Degree Placement Exam (LYS) and congratulated them on their success. The students directed questions regarding TOBB ETU and Turkey’s economy to Hisarcıklıoğlu.

The meeting, held in the TOBB Union Center in Ankara, was also attended by the TOBB ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Altunbaşak, TOBB ETU Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Fuat Bilkan, TOBB ETU Faculty of Law Dean Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Kırca and TOBB Secretary General Mustafa Saraçöz.

Congratulating every student individually, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “Your teachers have taught you well. You have achieved important successes. You are now on the cusp of one of life’s most important choices. I heartily believe that you will be successful after this point as well. You success will be Turkey’s success.”

- “Learn while practicing”

Drawing attention to TOBB ETU’s internship program, Hisarcıklıoğlu said that students accrue practical knowledge by participating in internships while still studying.

TOBB ETU Rector Prof. Dr. Yücel Altunbaşak stated that there were many important academic personnel and this would be an important opportunity for the students.

TOBB ETU Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Fuat Bilkan said that TOBB was like a real sector university with a focus on employment.
Hisarcıklıoğlu, Rector Altunbaşak, Deputy Rector Bilkan and Dean Kırca provided detailed information on the subjects students had questions about.

TOBB and TOBB ETU Board of Trustees President Hisarcıklıoğlu, in answer to a question said, “The greatest successes in the world are achieved when law and justice are at their peak. You can be traders all you like; we’ll still need law makers. The most straightforward dispute takes 2 years to be resolved. You need to be well educated and hasten these processes.

- “We aim to cultivate leaders who will lead Turkey”

Stating that TOBB ETU’s scholarship ratio was 43%, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “Our aim is not to make money, it is providing education to good students. As long as you’re at the school so are the teachers. The goal is to provide the best education possible. We aim to increase quality, not capacity. We aim to cultivate leaders who will lead Turkey. We aim to be one of the top 100 universities in the world during the next 10 years.”

Talking about the goal to bring Turkey into the top 10 largest economies in the world by 2023, Hisarcıklıoğlu said to the students, “Our generation brought Turkey from 27th to 16th place. Hopefully you will bring us to number 1.”
