TOBB represents Turkish transportation sector against discriminatory policies in Brussels

14.06.2016 / Brüksel / Belçika

TOBB took part in the protest against the protective measures adopted by France targeting the international land transportation sector which would prove restrictive and negatively impact international trade with the 13 member organizations of the International Road Transportation Union (IRU) on July 1st, 2016, in Brussels.

TOBB is working to ensure that the measures which include minimum wage for foreign drivers, work and rest hours and the facilities these can be spent in as well as national legislation supplemental to international trade legislation do not negatively impact the Turkish transportation sector.

A joint declaration was signed by TOBB and other IRU members, directed towards European Commission Chair Jean-Claude Juncker and French President François Hollande, urging that these unfair practices be rescinded.

The declaration by the IRU also states that 40 questions have been directed towards French authorities regarding the measures which have yet to be answered. The document also calls for the clear definition of the legal process involving Germany in addition to the cancellation of said protective measures.

TOBB will continue to defend the interests of the Turkish transportation sector on a multitude of platforms domestically and internationally.
