EU Education Forum held in Kocaeli

The European Union Education Forum was held in Kocaeli with the attendances of 120 teachers and education related professionals, academics, journalists and NGO representatives from 19 provinces throughout Turkey between May 30th and July 1st of 2016. Host Kocaeli Chamber of Industry Chair Ayhan Zeytinoğlu represented EU Turkey Delegation Vice Chair Bela Szombati at the opening ceremony on May 31st.​

On the first day, teachers and education related professionals attended workshops which focused on experimental learning and pedagogical discussions. At the panel which followed subjects such as the education philosophies of the EU and Turkey, rights in education, play based learning and STEM were discussed.

The Forum which took place on the last day under Mesut Yar’s moderation focused on “New/Alternative Perspectives in Education” while a live online questionnaire was held on the subject and the results discussed. Among the speakers were Hürriyet Newspaper Education Writer Nuran Çakmak, representatives of Anoter School is Possible Association and the Nesin Mathematics Village as well as teachers using alternative education techniques.

The Forum is organized by the EU Information Centers Network founded in 1996 with the support of EU Turkey Delegation. Centers coordinated under TOBB work to provide regular flow of information on EU, EU norms and values as well as Turkey’s accession process, holding such cultural events as conferences, meetings, exhibitions and concerts.
