08.07.2013 / Ankara

TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu and the TOBB Board of Directors members accompanying him paid a courtesy visit to Cemil Çiçek to congratulate him on his reelection to the office of the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Wishing the best in the new term to Çiçek, Hisarcıklıoğlu also thanked him for the wisdom and common sense he exercised in the last term.

Thanking Çiçek for acting as the voice of reason during tense periods in the TBMM as the private sector, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “The private sector requires peace and stability. We know your contributions in this field quite well. You took up a difficult duty in a difficult time. Hopefully, after your meetings tomorrow, the Constitution Negotiation Commission will continue its work. We hope to see the Turkish people make their own constitution.”

Çiçek thanked Hisarcıklıoğlu and reminded that they have made great contributions to a fundamental issue in Turkey with the meetings by TOBB.

- “We are ashamed to have not delivered a constitution yet”

“However we are yet ashamed because we have yet to deliver a constitution to you,” said Çiçek and went on to elaborate on the importance of making a new constitution, be it for the reason that the people as a whole demand it; that it will allow Turkey to progress and to preserve peace and stability.

Stating that he will visit with the presidents of the political parties to consult with them as to how the situations will progress with the elections close at hand – which would hinder work on such a matter.
