18.07.2012 / Ankara

The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu stated, in answer to allegations claiming that he “has been invited to join the AK Party,” said, “I have never been interested in politics. The only interest I have at the moment is presiding over the Turkish business world.”

Answering a journalist’s question on whether he had been invited to join the AK Party at his meeting with the Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the opening of the PRODCOM Classification Training for Industrial Capacity Reports, Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that he would hold office as the TOBB President until May, 2013, and that he has give his word to this end to chamber presidents and delegates.

Hisarcıklıoğlu, in response to the reiteration of the question, said, “There has been no such invitation. That is the truth of it. I will be the President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey until May 2013. I have not directed my interest to other fields. I’ve said this for 10 years. I have very clearly stated that I will never be interested in any other fields as long as I am the President of the Union of Chambers and Exchanges. Whatever I said before stands true now.”
