Hisarcıklıoğlu urges Switzerland to lift visas

Switzerland Federal Economy, Technology, Agriculture and Professional Training Minister Johann N. Schneider-Ammann and the Swiss businessmen accompanying him were hosted at a work-dinner at the TOBB Union Center by TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu. Hisarcıklıoğlu pointed out that the foremost obstruction to trade is visas and reported that the Turkish business community is awaiting a solution to this matter.​

 

Hisarcıklıoğlu, during his speech, stated that trade between both countries would increase and said that he found it sad that Turkey’s exports only 1% of its total exports to Switzerland. Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that one of the most important fields in the coming years will be energy and that Turkey requires approximately 100 billion Dollars’ worth of investments in the next 10 years.

Providing information regarding TOBB’s structure and Turkey’s economy, Hisarcıklıoğlu emphasized that TOBB is the business community’s umbrella organization with 1.4 million members. Stating that TOBB is one of Turkey’s most democratic institutions, Hisarcıklıoğlu the most successful companies of their sectors are organized in 59 sector councils.

Stating that they have established the largest women’s organization in Turkey by supporting women entrepreneurs, the TOBB President also provided information regarding DEİK, TOBB ETU, TEPAV and TOBB’s international efforts in detail.

Emphasizing Turkey’s economic goals and strengths, Hisarcıklıoğlu spoke about their goal of becoming one of the top 10 economies of the world by 2023. TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that the Turkish Trade Law has been reworked to facilitate foreign investments.

Switzerland Federal Economy, Technology, Agriculture and Professional Training Minister Johann N. Schneider-Ammann expressed that he was greatly impressed by both Turkey’s goals and Hisarcıklıoğlu’s presentation.

Pointing out that both countries have shared goals, Johann N. Schneider-Ammann stated that they wish to increase relations, “There are many things which could be improved between Turkey and Switzerland in terms of trade and that is why we are here. I think that the legislation is suitable for increasing trade relations between both countries. This has only become a stronger verdict with the signing of double-taxing prevention agreement.”
