The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) President Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, stating that the disaster in Van is on a huge scale, said that they would do everything in their power with prefabricated and permanent housing.
Hisarcıklıoğlu, in Van with the syndicate, vocational chambers, associations and various NGOs’ representatives which make up the “Call to Unity Platform”, held a press conference with the members of the commerce and industry chambers of the region.

Hisarcıklıoğlu showed two clips which he said affected him deeply prior to the meeting. In one, a citizen stated that all of Turkey had flocked to help Van in its time of need and that everything was provided by the government contrary to statements made denying it. The other one showed the fortitude of a citizen who had lost his loved ones.

Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that they had come to embrace Van, “The disaster is on a very large scale. However the reaction to it has been quicker than the other ones we’ve dealt with. This, at least, is something to be grateful for.”
Saying that the whole of Turkey had come to Van to help, Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that everything would be back on track with time. Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that the citizens were also aware of this effort and that all institutions and establishments have mobilized for urgent necessities.

Stating that the needs in and of the period which will follow are important, Hisarcıklıoğlu said that the most important need will be for tents. Pointing out that prefabricates and containers need to be acquired, Hisarcıklıoğlu said that he was in favor of all banks postponing debts and that the government has taken the necessary steps regarding debts.

Hisarcıklıoğlu, stating that they will assess the aid they will be making in Ankara, said, “We will be doing our best regarding prefabricated and permanent residences.”

Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “We have seen that unity and solidarity are at the heart of us. This gives us great hope. We return invigorated with hope. We look to the future with it. No one can divide us. May Allah not test us in these trying times. May He test us in the good times. When we are tested in hard times we do what is needed as a nation. What is important is to bring out unity and solidarity in the good times as well.”

Afterwards regional professional and commerce representatives stated their views. The professional and commercial chamber representatives of the region emphasized the spirit of unity and stated that 6 months were needed to get the economic gears turning again and pointed out the importance of support to the region in this regard.

A powerful aftershock was felt during the press conference.
Hisarcıklıoğlu was the live guest of some TV channels after the press conference, relating his impressions regarding the region. The TOBB President was briefed in the damaged Van Chamber of Commerce and Industry afterwards.
