TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, met with Palestine National Administration President Mahmut Abbas for dinner. The dinner, which took place in Istanbul, was attended by Palestine Foreign Affairs Minister Riyad Al Maliki, Palestine Ankara Ambassador Nabil Maruf, Turkish Jerusalem Consul Şakir Özkan Torunlar, TOBB BİS Inc. Board President Ahmet Şekeroğlu and TEPAV Director Prof. Dr. Güven Sak.​

 

Speaking at the dinner, Hisarcıklıoğlu said that Palestine’s steps towards national unity were gratifying and that they would continue to closely watch the establishment of the organized industry zone in Jenin. Stating that they put great importance on cooperation with the Palestine Federation of the Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Hisarcıklıoğlu said that the Federation held a key role in the development of entrepreneurship and private sector in Palestine.

Palestine National Administration President Mahmut Abbas said that Palestine was taking determined steps on the way to statehood and that they would petition the EU for membership in September. Abbas stated that the support of the 118 countries which recognize Palestine would be crucial during the process and that an additional 10 countries may come to recognize Palestine by that time, and thanked Turkey for their support.
Stating that he had supported the organized industry zone in Jenin from the very start, Abbas said that the steps necessary to ameliorate Palestine’s investment atmosphere would be taken.
TEPAV Director Prof. Dr. Güven Sak gave a presentation on the work done regarding the Jenin Industrial Zone, the perception of Palestine from the view of investors and the necessary steps to be taken.
