As the first item on the agenda, an informative presentation was made on “Standard Essential Patents” (SEP). In the presentation made by Vestel Intellectual Property Rights Manager Kemal Fırat Aygör, the effects of SEP-related costs and licensing processes on companies in the consumer electronics sector were discussed. Increasing license costs, patent pools and litigation risks, especially in the TV and mobility sectors, were highlighted, and the factors affecting the competitiveness of Turkish manufacturers in the international market were emphasized. It was suggested that incentive mechanisms should be created for the management of SEP costs and companies should develop their own patent portfolios.
The meeting was concluded after the evaluation of the three main problems to be addressed in the TOBB Türkiye Sectoral Economic Council and the solution proposals for them, and the opinions of the members of the Council on the sectoral council work plan and expectations.
