Turkey Energy Council discusses current issues

The meeting of the Turkey Energy Council was held under the chairmanship of Council President İhsan Akyol with the participation of TOBB Board Member Zeki Kıvanç, Murat Zekeriya Aydın, General Manager of Energy Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, and EPİAŞ General Manager Ahmet Türkoğlu.​

At the meeting wherein Council President İhsan Akyol gave a presentation to Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez and Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan; Energy Affairs General Manager Murat Zekeriya Aydın answered and evaluated questions about the incentive provided for renewable components, the YEKDEM mechanism, YEKA tenders and the cost of financing.

At the meeting, Energy Affairs Deputy Director General Engin Ä°lseven, gave a comprehensive presentation on the overall energy outlook.

Engin Ä°lseven noting that the sector started the year in a positive mood, due to Covid-19 faced negative directional demand compared to the previous year between the March to June period, but reported that the recovery began with June. Referring to the use of resource-based electricity generation and the increase in the share of domestic and renewable energy sources, Ä°lseven said that the share of domestic and renewable resources is expected to be around 85% in regards to the 18,000 MW capacity projected to be commissioned by 2023. Ä°lseven gave information about the use of Turkey's annual energy consumption on a resource-based basis and the studies on resource diversity.

Ahmet Türkoğlu, General Manager of EPİAŞ, suggested that the prices to be referenced be those presented by the Electricity Market (EPİAS), and that these prices should be taken into account in the proposals to be given in tenders.

Kemal Uslu, Turkish Energy Council Consultant, gave his presentation regarding the first six months of 2019 and 2020, including YEKDEM costs, water revenues and market prices.
