TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu released a statement regarding the 7.2 Van earthquake. Stating that the country is facing a significant natural disaster, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “We pray that the loss of life is not great. We present our condolences to the region’s residents and to our nation. Our people, who have been through many difficult tribulations involving earthquakes, share this pain intimately. We must embrace each other in the face of these troubles.”
Hisarcıklıoğlu stated in his message:
“As our country’s heart burned with terrorist assaults, the earthquake disaster adds to the pain. The earthquake, centered on the Tabanlı village of Van, and the possible casualties are a source of distress for us all.
We are, of course, unable to prevent natural disasters. But we will be of one heart as the 74 million to stem the losses and heal the wounds as soon as possible. The tears brought on the disaster are ours. The pain is ours.
On behalf of the Turkish business world, it is our wish that the loss of life not increase and no new disasters occur. We share the pain and sadness of the region’s residents and all of our nation.”
