Japan’s economy is worried about the fast population aging

The conference on “Trends in the Global Economy and the Challenges for Japan” was held at TOBB ETU. Faik Yavuz, Vice President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) said we should turn the Turkish-Japanese friendship into a permanent partnership by increasing mutual investments. Making a presentation about Japan’s economy, Professor Motoshige Itoh from Tokyo University indicated Japan’s biggest problem is its elderly population.

 

Speaking at the plenary session, Faik Yavuz expressed Turkey and Japan have traditional relations since the nineteenth century and Turkish society sympathizes Japan. Additionally, he said Japan has recovered strongly in spite of the challenges and Turkey always appreciates this economic glory.
 
 
-Japanese companies’ interest for Turkey has increased
 
 
Jun Yoshida, Counselor of the Embassy of Japan in Ankara, informed the conference was held within the scope of Japanese Year. He also stated Japanese companies have started to be more interested in Turkey.
 
 
-“Japanese people’s life expectancy has caused trouble on retirement and health expenses”
 
 
In pursuit of inaugural speeches, Professor Motoshige Itoh, one of the famous economists of Japan and Tokyo University, made a presentation on trends in the global economy and Japan to Turkish businessmen, academicians and students. Itoh indicated Japanese economy has some difficulties at present, but it will be understood that not only Japan faces these challenges.
 
 
Stating Japan’s biggest problem is elderly population and governments get stuck about retirement and health expenses because of the Japanese longevity, Itoh declared the government has created new growth strategies and systems for this reason.
 
 
Itoh stated they should change the forms of doing business and managing economy and said, “We did not have free trade agreements ten years ago. East Asian countries are late for free trade agreements.”
 
 
After the conference, Faik Yavuz, Vice-President of TOBB, presented a plate to Itoh.
