Bülent Karakus: “Traffic accidents are not fate, but terrorism”

Speaking at the opening of the Traffic Safety and Highway Passenger Transport Workshop organized at the TOBB Conference Hall, TOBB Board Member Bülent Karakus emphasized that Turkey's two main problems are armed terror and traffic terrorism. “Traffic accidents are not fate, but terrorism. We have lost about 50,000 people in the last 10 years.”​

Karakuş said that the work relating to the regulations to be made have begun to bear fruit, and that the number of fatal traffic accidents has begun to decrease.

Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu also said, “One of the most important issues is that we have to establish a trust between our citizens and the state; and I want to express that we have abolished the practice of 'trap radars'.”

Soylu said that the purpose of the campaigns and events they organize is not just to raise awareness; they have to respond to public expectations and that the workshop has been organized for this.

National Education Minister Ismet Yılmaz reported that traffic is at the fore during the beginning of the school year and during the holidays, pointing out that the solution to traffic would be possible through cooperation with the related institutions and organizations.

Transport, Maritime and Communications Minister Ahmet Arslan stated that the necessity of developing the road transport according to the needs of the times, technology and security and comfort needs is an inescapable reality.
