The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that despite all obstacles, Turkey has achieved 11% growth in the first quarter, “However there is an extraordinary difference in imports and exports on a magnitude of 5,5. This ties us down.”

Adana Chamber of Industry, Adana Chamber of Commerce, Adana Commodity Exchange, Ceyhan Chamber of Commerce, Ceyhan Commodity Exchange, Kozan Chamber of Commerce and the Kozan Commodity Exchange Profession Committees Joint Meeting was held at the Adana Chamber of Industry conference hall.

Speaking at the meeting, TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu said that in order to address the current deficit Turkey must channel commerce into other markets besides Europe and that India and China represent a sizable consumer group.

Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “We have not caught up to the levels of import and export prior to the 12 month cumulative crisis. Our share of world exports has declined from 0.082 to 0.076. Our import share has increased from 1.11 to 1.21. We must address this immediately.”

“The current deficit’s ratio to the grand nation product is 6.6. Meaning the highest it’s ever been,” Hisarcıklıoğlu said and went on, “Adana is focused on Iraq but that market has shrunk by 700 billion dollars. We have displayed a single market growth. Our goal should be new markets. Countries following China and India are increasing their exports. We need to be looking for new markets. A family’s kitchen costs for 1 week in Germany is 500 dollars, in Egypt, 58 dollars. We need to market our products in places which can afford them. We must focus on these as soon as possible. For instance, China and India’s income is higher than Europe. People who have income and are spending it. Their only obsession is that the products they consume do not have “Made in China/India” on them. There is a significant market there. Europe is important for us but we must not forget that there are other markets for us.”
TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu said, addressing the Adana Chamber of Industry, Chamber of Commerce and Commodity Exchange presidents, “I have visited the family of the martyr Gökhan Yıldırım who fell in Diyarbakır. He has three brothers. I want you to look after them. No one must threaten our unity and solidarity.”

- “Open the faculty, we will provide the education”

Speaking about the university which the Adana Chamber of Commerce is working to establish, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “Instead of establishing a new university in Adana, open up a new faculty. Sivas said “We’ll open a faculty. You provide the education.” We accepted that. I say to the Adana Chamber of Commerce, establish a faculty and we will provide the education.”
After the meeting Adana Chamber of Industry and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry signed a “Sister Chamber” protocol, witnessed by TOBB President Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu.
