Faik Yavuz attended meeting in Washington

TOBB and the US Chamber of Commerce held a meeting in Washington D.C. with the participation of Customs and Trade Minister Bülent Tüfenkci as well as representatives of US companies such as, Apple, Ford, Dow, PhrMA, Cargill, Abbvie, Boston Scientific, Brambles, DHL and UPS.​

The meeting began with the opening remarks of TOBB Executive Board Member Faik Yavuz, US Chamber of Commerce Board Member and Senior President Adviser Greg Lebedev on behalf of Turkish and US business associations that hosted the conference.

During the opening speeches, TOBB-US Trade Partnership and related events were mentioned.

It was emphasized that the Turkish economy is performing strongly despite the recent elections in Turkey, government changes, the ongoing war with the DEAÅž and the PKK, the refugee crisis and the July 15 coup attempt.

In his speech, Minister Tüfenkci stated that the strong banking sector and fiscal discipline are the most important foundations of this endurance, noting that the Turkish economy has proved its resistance to many shocks in recent years.

Tüfenkci emphasized the importance of the signing of the Free Trade Agreement and the inclusion of Turkey in the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership for Turkey-US relations.

After the speeches, a Q&A part was held and American companies posed their questions and comments to the Turkish participants.

Minister Tüfenkci also visited TOBB's Washington D.C. office as part of his visit to the United States, where he received information about TOBB's activities in the US.
