We must translate the potential with Serbia into trade

20.06.2011 / Ankara

Serbian Ambassador to Turkey Duşan Spasojevic visited TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu.

During the meeting Hisarcıklıoğlu pointed out the lack of knowledge on both ends to be the reason for weak economic relations between Turkey and Serbia. He went on to say that the investment possibilities were much larger and that the latent potential should be translated into trade. Hisarcıklıoğlu also commented that Serbia was the rising star of the Balkans and had the eyes of the world on them.

Ambassador Spasojevic underlined the fact that, although he has only been in Turkey for four months, he has seen what a strong and fast growing country Turkey is and that not only Middle East countries but European countries also have a lot to learn from the Turkey model.

As part of the Serbian President Boris Tadic’s state visit to Turkey this year, in order to better the economic relationship between the two countries, it was decided that two meetings –one in Ankara, another one in a province to be decided- would be held so that Turkish and Italian businessmen would get to know each other better.
