Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey

Visa Briefing Meeting held at TEPAV for the business community

21.03.2014 / Ankara

Speaking at the TOBB-EU Delegation Visa Briefing Meeting held at TEPAV, TOBB Presidential Council Member Faik Yavuz stated that the visa policies of countries like those of Schengen states remain the single most significant obstacle to the development of economic relations Turkey and EU.

“The visa procedures are preventing our businessmen to benefit from the privileges of being a member of the Customs Union,” said Yavuz and went on, “As the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, we have been expressing our displeasure in regards to this procedure in all platforms we partake in.”

Stating that they view the Readmission Agreement and the Visa Freedom Dialogue as a positive development in this regard, Yavuz reported that they would be holding similar Briefing Meetings in cooperation with the EU Turkey Delegation and the Consulates of EU member states in Trabzon, Gaziantep, Bursa and Eskişehir after Ankara.

Also speaking during the meeting were Italian Embassy First Secretary Marcella Zaccagnino and German Embassy Legal and Consulate Affairs Department Chief Stefan Delfs providing further information on the Schengen Visa.
