Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey

Meeting council members

29.09.2019 / Ankara

The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu attended the Councilor Briefing Seminar. In his speech, Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that the duty of council members is to enrich the city and to convey the problems of its members. Hisarcıklıoğlu gave a message of unity and solidarity to the councilors and advised, “Never to alienate each other.”

Stating that TOBB is the most democratic institution in Turkey, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “None of you were appointed. In your own city, everyone is the leader of their profession. Ours is the hardest election. It is the hardest to ask for votes from your rival of four years. We are the cement of society. Without traders, industrialists there is no chance of this house being intact. We are the ones who provide the best social reconciliation. We do not look at a man's sect, religion, political view when buying and selling goods. Whoever gives the best quality the cheapest, we get it from them.”

- You must make your city rich

Stating that there is no money to be had from these positions, the TOBB President stated that everyone's goal is to make the city where they live richer. Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “This is equivalent to making the country rich. Leadership is not an easy thing. Leadership is giving. You can't be a leader if you start thinking of receiving. Competition ends with the elections. There is no resentment for merchants. We always get along with each other. You need to have more effective dialogue with your colleagues. The elected person has to put all his political views away. Our duty is to protect the rights of our members. We have not been given any other duties.

Right must make might. If might makes right, it will not end well. Therefore, your only purpose in your office is to tell the problems of your members. Forward these to the relevant authorities. Solidarity is very important. Your cooperation in your region is very important. We will negotiate to the end. Then we will stand together with the President in a joint decision. Grace and blessings in unity; anguish in dissent. We won't fight. If we stand as one, we win. Have you ever seen a bird migrating alone? They all migrate together. You should learn what your rights are so you can tell your members about them.”

M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu pointed out that he is hopeful for the future and expressed that merchants and industrialists will never be hopeless. Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “If we lose hope, we cannot open the door of the shop the next morning. Never alienate each other. A special request from you: Raise your daughters as entrepreneurs. Support young people in entrepreneurship. Remember that the path to wealth is through entrepreneurship.”
