“Being environmentally sensitive is a human duty”

05.06.2018 / Ankara

TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, in his June 5th World Environment Day message, underlined that they are facing many problems from global warming and climate change to desertification. “Everyone has to be sensitive to nature and the environment. This is not a matter of preference; it is an inevitable duty for all people.”
Hisarcıklıoğlu's message is as follows:

“All people living on earth have to obey nature and nature. Let us not forget; we did not inherit this world from our ancestors, we borrowed it from our children. That's why we must look after it diligently.

We, as the business community, believe that companies that are environmentally friendly and work on energy efficiency principles should be encouraged by different mechanisms, including tax advantages. In fact, this should be a global policy. Companies that do business with this understanding should be made more prestigious both in public and for consumers.

Experts warn us against environmental problems. 1.2 billion people in the near future will suffer from hunger, thirst, loss of livelihood, and the need to emigrate if desertification is not prevented and when many islands are submerged with global warming. We cannot ignore them. This is our human duty; our children’s most important charge laid upon us.

I celebrate June 5th World Environment Day, and wish for increased sensitivity and awareness by all on this issue.”
