In his message regarding the May 19th Atatürk Memorial, Youth and Sports Day, TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that May 19th is greatly significant as the start of the Independence War against the invasion forces.

Hisarcıklıoğlu, reminding that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk has gifted this historic day to the youth as a holiday, said that the bright future of the country and its state as a modern civilization will be shaped by hands of the youth.

Hisarcıklıoğlu said in his message:

"On May 19th, 1919, Atatürk landed in Samsun on the Bandırma Ferry, starting the flame of independence, bringing us to the level of modern civilization of today.

Underlying the gesture of gifting this day to our youth are great meanings. Our generation has made Turkey into one of the world's prominent economic powers, the foundation of which were laid by our ancestors along with the seeds of industrialization. Those who will take up the flag and carry it to the summit are our youth. They are the architects of the future; of beautiful days to come.

The Republic of Turkey is in a great race among the countries of the world for civilization and economy. As the business world, we strive to give our people employment and living by investing more and more. We strive to grow our economy larger. It is our fervent desire that our national income increase, that we become richer and that our level of prosperity grows. We will continue to work to this end with all of our might.

How joyous, those who wrote history beginning on May 19th. How joyous, those who are a part of this history...

It is with these thoughts and feelings that I, on behalf of the Turkish private sector, on the anniversary of this momentous day in which our fight for independence towards unity and solidarity, celebrate May 19th, Atatürk Memorial, Youth and Sports Day and express our deepest gratitude to our veterans and martyrs and remember them with the greatest respect."
