Çumra: a city of history and culture

The new building of the Çumra Chamber of Commerce and Industry was opened with ceremony, attended by TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu.​

Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “I am pleased to be with you in Çumra, the city of Çatalhöyük, forerunner of agriculture and birthplace of civilization.”

Stressing the importance of Çumra as a city of ancient history and culture, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “Çatalhöyük and its environs have a history dating back to 7000 BC, listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Evidence of trade, the domestication of animals and weaving were first discovered in Çumra in world history. Earth pots and copper were used here for the first time and civilization began here, spreading out to the world. This is the Turkey's first modern example of urbanism. Çumra is a center of modern farming, with large, fertile and irrigable fields.”

Hisarcıklıoğlu said that Çumra is the agricultural production base of Konya and Turkey, as well as boasting Turkey's largest and the most modern sugar factory.

Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that tulip cultivation has gained speed in Çumra and that 50 million tulips are produced annually.

Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that the physical capacity of Çumra Chamber of Commerce with its new service building is 5-star quality, “Now, it is time for accreditation. I hope it will also be a 5-star chamber in terms of service.”

TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu promised to build a school in Çumra as TOBB.
