TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, as a guest of the ATO Academy Personal Development Education Week activities organized by the Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) in cooperation with Association of Building Construction Industry Material Suppliers Association (TİMKODER) for their members, gave important recommendations on entrepreneurship, branding and success in business life.

Stating that capital is no longer needed to become an entrepreneur, Hisarcıklıoğlu explained that he started his business life with zero capital in Rüzgarlı Sokak, Ankara. Stressing that young people who want to be entrepreneurs today are luckier, Hisarcıklıoğlu said that a computer is enough to start a business.

Hisarcıklıoğlu, quoting German Chancellor Angela Merkel, ‘We need to prepare a second education in Germany after the age of 35. We understand what we learned at the university and is wrong today.’ Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “This is how it is. Think about the internet of 20 years ago and think about the internet today. Access to information is incredibly easy and fast. This was impossible 20 years ago.”

Hisarcıklıoğlu, advising the young people who want to be entrepreneurs to dream first, said, “You must dream first; everything starts with dreams.”

Referring to the importance of hard work, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “You must work hard. I have not seen anyone succeed without hard work. Allah provides to those that toil, that is what our faith tells us.”

Stating that one of the ways to be successful in business life is also to be different, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “You must ask yourself what you can do differently to profit more. Whatever you do, do it differently from others.”

Noting the importance of branding, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “It is impossible to make money without a brand. Ensure that you build your brand well.”

Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “You cannot win without losing, but you must not give up.”

Hisarcıklıoğlu shared his five golden rules: “Trust your memory to your own detriment; check first, trust later; there is no substitute for hard work; the trick is honesty; there can be no making do in business.”

Hisarcıklıoğlu emphasized cooperation lies at the root of success. Hisarcıklıoğlu pointed out that Turks established 252 states and 16 empires throughout history and said, “We are proud of this. Where are the 16 empires? There are no other nations with 16 empires. We built those empires and we destroyed them. We thrive in adversity, but we fall upon each other in prosperity.” Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that the way to grow capital is through consolidation.
