Prime Minister Deputy Ali Babacan and TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu rang the closing bell of NASDAQ, USA’s second largest exchange focused mainly on technology developing companies’ stocks.​


In New York for the “Turkey Investment Week” along with a large delegation from the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, Babacan visited NASDAQ as part of the events of Turkey Investment Week.


Babacan rang the closing bell of the exchange at the NASDAQ studio with TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu. During the ceremony, USA Chamber of Commerce Senior Advisor Greg Lebedev and NASDAQ Board Vice President Sandy Fruchner and chamber and exchange presidents from various provinces of Turkey posed for a commemorative photo.


Speaking at the ceremony, Babacan reported that they had recently conducted the opening of Exchange İstanbul, and stated that they wish to establish closer ties between it and NASDAQ.
Stating that the stocks of 28 Turkish companies are being traded on the NASDAQ, Babacan said that both exchanges stand to benefit from closer ties between the two exchanges.

The ringing of the closing bell in the NASDAQ studio was broadcast to giant screens in New York’s famous Times Square. Thousands of visiting tourists and New Yorkers watched the closing ceremony live.
