Cyprus should be an island of stability in the Eastern Mediterranean

TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu attended a business luncheon with the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Industry delegation. Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “We, the Turkish business community, want to invest more in Cyprus and increase mutual trade. We support the efforts of the Cyprus solution and we want Cyprus to be an island of prosperity and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.”​

Hisarcıklıoğlu met with the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Industry President Mustafa Kaymak and the board members accompanying him.

Hisarcıklıoğlu, speaking before the luncheon at the TOBB Twin Towers, emphasized the brotherhood of the two countries and said that there are very strong historical, cultural and economic ties that link Turkey and the TRNC.

Hisarcıklıoğlu expressed his wish that the Turkish Cypriots would prosper as the Turkish business community and said, “We are aware that unfair insulation of the Turkish Cypriots has slowed this down, but thanks to the hard work and resilience of the Turkish Cypriots, the process of prosperity will continue. We are aware of the benefit the prosperity of the Turkish Cypriot people on the resolution process.”

Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that they’ve always supported the process of fair and lasting solution for Cyprus.

Hisarcıklıoğlu emphasized that the Investment Advisory Council mechanism, established in order to make the investment environment more competitive, should definitely be revitalized.

- Cyprus economy is strong

Emphasizing that a Cyprus with a powerful economy will have a stronger position in solution negotiations, Hisarcıklıoğlu said that the Nicosia Economic Forum, which they established in June of 2014, is an important platform for highlighting the support of the business community for the solution negotiations.

Hisarcıklıoğlu concluded his words by pointing out that they are aware of the importance of the tourism and education sectors for the Cyprus economy:

“We want the Cypriot industry to grow and the Cypriot entrepreneurs to produce more. We will continue to support the development of the production capacity of the Cypriot industry as TOBB always has. We are ready to share our knowledge and experience to this end. We want to invest more in Cyprus as the Turkish business community. We want to have more mutual trade. We support the solution efforts in Cyprus. We want Cyprus to be an island of prosperity and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.”

The Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Industry Chairman Mustafa Kaymak said that they are in Turkey on the invitation of the Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) and that they’ve attended many meetings.

Stating that the TRNC has continued its struggle under embargo, Kaymak said, “We are confident that the Republic of Turkey will always be with us, and we want Turkish investors to do business with us in the TRNC.”

ATO Vice-President Mustafa Deryal said that their meetings, which started with their visit to the TRNC is continuing with the visit the TRNC guest delegation.

Deryal, who wants to contribute to the mutual cooperation of bilateral talks, said, “It was encouraging to feel the power of TOBB behind us during these endeavors.”
