4 Turkish companies win 4 tenders at CERN

CERN success of Turkish companies. Four of the 89 tenders awarded in the first six months of this year by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) have been won by 4 Turkish firms. The total worth of tenders taken on by Turkish firms has exceeded 300,000 Euros.​

The CERN Industry Liaison Office, established within TOBB, accelerated their work in order to provide participation coordination to the bidding processes so that Turkish companies could get more shares from this market.

TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu congratulated the companies who won tenders at CERN, saying that new opportunities were opened to the industry with Turkey being a partner to CERN. Hisarcıklıoğlu, who also wished success to companies which are participating in ongoing tenders, said CERN is an opportunity to leap to high technology. Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that they urge Turkish company to partake in tenders and that TOBB will be concentrating on this process.

CERN has initiated work for major infrastructure and equipment changes which are planned to continue until 2026. The number of tenders and purchases opened in 2017 was up by 100%. The involvement of Turkish industrialists in CERN's tenders for higher energy collisions in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and for technical changes in order to record these collisions more precisely and quickly has also increased.

- Tenders won and firms

Gözüküçük Machinery from Kayseri successfully passed the first sample and process approvals of 3 different types and 4,480 Precision Protection Shields specially manufactured for CERN in March 2017. Gözüküçük Machinery, which exports 75% of its production to Western and Northern European countries, manufactures precision parts made of metal for energy, electricity, electronics, medical and machinery sectors by using domestic labor force and state-of-the-art production machines.

Istanbul-based Mistel Cable won the Flexible Bus Bar contract by leaving 8 companies behind. The company delivered 19,000 pieces of 5 different types of orders in June. Mistel Cable, which serves the electricity sector in Turkey and in the nearby geographical region, aims to increase business volume in Europe with the success of CERN.

Two Turkish firms, EGE / GEMA Industrial Control and ASAÅž Aluminum, which have left their competitors behind in the two different rounds in June, are preparing for handover of precision control valves to be used in the detector cooling system of the ALICE test and special aluminum for the radio frequency coaxial cable sets in the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) accelerator. After the prototypes are approved by CERN, mass production and deliveries will be made.
