Praise for Turkish private sector from ICCIA President Kamel touring Konya with Hisarcıklıoğlu

TOBB President and Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (ICCIA) Vice President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, in Konya for the 24th ICCIA Board Meeting, visited the Konya OIZ, Konya Commodity Exchange and Karatay University along with ICCIA President Sheikh Saleh Kamel and ICCIA Board Members. Kamel praised the effectiveness of the Turkish private sector, stating that it should provide an example to other Islamic countries.​

TOBB President and ICCIA Vice President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu greeted ICCIA President Sheikh Saleh Kamel and the guest delegation at Konya Airport, touring with them the areas where the Turkish private sector is instrumental. First visiting the Konya Organized Industry Zone (Konya OIZ), Hisarcıklıoğlu then brought Kamel and the delegation accompanying to the Konya Commodity Exchange. Also present during the visit were Konya Commodity Exchange Chair Hüseyin Çevik, Konya Chamber of Commerce Chair and TOBB Board Member Selçuk Öztürk, Konya Chamber of Industry Chair and TOBB Board Member Memiş Kütükçü as well as Ankara Commodity Exchange Chair and TOBB Board Treasurer Faik Yavuz. Detailed information regarding the operation of the exchange and licensed warehousing system were provided to the delegation.

Hisarcıklıoğlu, during his briefing at the Konya Commodity Exchange, stated that the commerce conducted at the exchange is wholly compliant with Islamic principles, emphasizing the need to implement the system in all Islamic countries.

ICCIA President Sheikh Kamel stated that he has had the opportunity to see the effectiveness of the Turkish private sector first-hand, pointing out that other Islamic countries should also have the private sector be active rather than the governments. Kamel, drawing attention to the utilization of modern technology in Turkey, urged that Islamic countries’ exchanges cooperate. Stating that corruption should have no place in Islamic countries, Sheikh Saleh Kamel lamented increasing corruption, “We should follow Turkey’s example.”

- Visit to Karatay University

Hisarcıklıoğlu, Kamel and the delegation then visited Konya Chamber of Commerce Karatay University. Konya Chamber of Commerce Chair Selçuk Öztürk provided information regarding the University and its establishment. Öztürk reported that the University has 6 faculties, an academy and two vocational academies, hosting 6,500 students.

ICCIA President Sheikh Saleh Kamel expressed admiration for the leading role played by the private sector in the establishment of the university, saying, “Hopefully this mentality will provide an example to other Islamic countries.”
