21.07.2016 / Ankara

In a statement regarding the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s announcement of the state of emergency declaration of the National Security Council, TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “We are going through extraordinary days and what will bring us to safe harbor is determination. We see this determination in our government and we have full confidence in the fact that we will soon become a more peaceful and secure country.”

Hisarcıklıoğlu said in his statement:

“The state of emergency, like in any civilized country, has been put in effect in order to ensure that civil and free life can resume with the shortest interval while the putschists who targeted the lives, property and government of the people can be brought before the law and to prevent further uprisings.

Our government and nation has overcome a great trial. The heinous coup attempt has been thwarted. Everyone should recognize the gravity of the situation. These are extraordinary circumstances and extraordinary measures are called for. In recent months a terror attack took place in France and a state of emergency was declared in order to take precautions. Yesterday, that state of emergency was extended for another 6 months.

The government must take precautions against threats to itself. To this end, declaring a state of emergency is a suitable precaution. The preserve public peace and ensure continuation of services necessitated this decision.

What’s important here is that democracy and freedoms are protected and the regular functioning of the economy. In this regard, the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as well as other relevant authorities have given the necessary explanations. It is our duty as a nation to assist our government in these difficult times.”
