Competition conditions in retail sector are being sought

TOBB Turkish Turkish Retail Trade Assembly gathered under the presidency of Mehmet Nane and reviewed conditions of competition in the sector. Tarkan Erdoğan, Head Expert from Competition Authority who participated to meeting as a guest, stated that within the framework of the decision taken by Competition Authority, an investigation has begun on conditions of competition in retail sector. ​

​According to Mr.Erdoğan’s brief; previous experiences in the retail sector, consolidations, black economy problems and especially affordability issues in terms of competition law are constituing the main issues of this investigation.  Chairman Mehmet Nane expressed that food, electronics, construction markets, cosmetics, textile, multi – storey shop merchandising and rebate merchandising have different conditions compared to each other, highlighting that sector is composed of very different sections. Mr. Nane stressed that as a result of the investigation to be carried out, those differences shall clearly appear and sector shall have a nice work.  - Work Commissions are establishedMehmet Nane, President of Retail Trade Assembly recalled that assembly established committees during its first term such as; “non-food chain stores”, “research and education”, “YOİKK”, “medicine”, “legislation”, “food retailing”, “Shopping malls” and suggested to simplify these committees within this term and put them together into 5 main groups. In light with the suggestions from members, it is decided to establish 4 committees on “fighting against black economy”, “creating employment”, “development and incentives”, “legal legislation” and “e – trading” rather than aforementioned committees.  -Corporate Structure within Ministry is completed One of the participants of the meeting, Dursun Çoşkunçelebi, Head of Department of Commerce, Directorate General of Internal Trading under Ministry of Industry and Commerce also stated that Head Department of Commerce carries out tasks in very different fields from electronic trading to fruit and vegetable products trading, from licensed warehouse business to shopping malls, and businesses are being conducted in a corporate integrity.
