“Marketing to CERN is playing on the Champions League”

The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) President Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “Per capita income is presently around 10,000 USD. If we want to increase this number, if we want to bring it up to 25,000, we must turn to high tech products. That depends on being able to do business with places like CERN and nuclear plants.”​

Hisarcıklıoğlu gave his assessment of the establishment goals of the European Organization for Nuclear Research, CERN, at the Business Opportunities with the European Organization for Nuclear Research for Turkish Businesses Meeting held in İzmit.

 Stating that the internet came out of CERN, Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that Turkey’s recent partnership with CERN brings new opportunities for industrialists.

Reporting that CERN has an annual flow of goods amounting to 600,000,000 USD, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “Turkey puts its money in there. Money from 40 nations are pooled there. This presents us with opportunity. They are saying that we can have a slice of the 600 million USD market. We will prosper if we are able to market more than we put in. I say to industrialists that business with CERN brings great prestige.”

Recalling the first meeting held in Ankara in regards to CERN, Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that only 1 company has taken on three bids from CERN in the 4 month period following the meeting.

Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that the gates of the world are open to companies who market their goods to CERN, “There is great opportunity here. The ideal place to take advantage of this is Kocaeli. There is great opportunity for you here. There are opportunities for even the smallest of establishments.”

Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that building a nuclear reactor is a new experience for Turkey and reported that they are in contact with the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry and Japan in regards to the matter at hand.

Stating that they are working to enable Turkish industrialists to take on business with nuclear reactors in order to facilitate the leap up to high tech, Hisarcıklıoğlu said that doing this enable them to truly reach prosperity.

Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “Make good use of this opportunity. The ball is in our court, we can score. Can we do it? There is no reason to be afraid, we can do it. Marketing to CERN is like driving a Mercedes Benz. There is great opportunity here.”

Kocaeli Chamber of Industry Board of Directors Chair Ayhan Zeytinoğlu stated that Kocaeli is one of Turkey’s largest industrial zones, “There are approximately 2,500 industrial establishments here. 89 of Turkey’s 500 larget companies are active within the province. The number of companies with foreign capital is 260. This is a province small in terms of land mass but great in added value generation.”

Kocaeli Chamber of Commerce Chair Board of Directors Murat Özdağ stated that the country is on the right track, “This is only the first phase. Just being on the right track does not bring us success. We must move forward and coordinate many different activities of economic nature; we must discover, produce and market.”
