22.01.2013 / Ankara

The Customs and Commerce Minister Hayati Yazıcı, addressing the objections to the NACE implementation, said, “Our friends may be lacking in information. It is unwise to attack the unknown.”

Minister Yazıcı attended the signature ceremony for the protocol regarding the construction of the Ahi Evran Vocational High School by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey.

Answering questions, Yazıcı stated that, in regards to the criticism aimed at the NACE implementation, the NACE codification undertaking is one Turkey’s most important projects.

Reminding that the work had begun in 2005, Yazıcı stated that there were significant problems in figuring out the activity fields of companies prior to Nace.

Stating that NACE is a codification system recognized and utilized worldwide, Yazıcı said, “It is an implementation which covers all actors of the economic life.”

Yazıcı stated that of the 18,000 challenges to NACE codes, 15,000 have been accepted and granted while 3,000 were rejected.

Stating that the grouping of activity fields was undertaken by TOBB, Yazıcı went on:

“There were horizontal and vertical consolidations for activity fields of insufficient population. It is an undertaking to address shortcomings in this area in Turkey. There will be some upheaval. Those who do not want to abandon old habits will object. There will be small problems which can be fixed. This undertaking is a gain for Turkey. Our friends may be lacking in information. It is unwise to attack the unknown. It is not practical. We must inform our friends.”

In regards to the Constitutional Court’s decision on the cancellation of the clause regarding the election of chamber presidents, Yazıcı stated that they will practice whatever the Court decided.
