The President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu visited the Assembly of Turkish American Associations as part of his Washington D.C. visit. Following the presentation providing information regarding the association’s activities, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “It is very gratifying to have such active institutions in the USA; your works have made us proud.”

TOBB President Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu was a guest at the Assembly of Turkish American Associations’ Washington D.C. offices, which encompasses the Turkish associations in the USA. The chairman of the association, Faruk Taban gave a presentation to Hisarcıklıoğlu and his accompanying delegation detailing the TAA and member associations’ works. Taban stated that they aim to introduce the Turkish people and their culture to the people and leaders of the USA and that they organize trips to Turkey to this end.

Speaking after the presentation, Hisarcıklıoğlu praised the works of the association and stated that it is gratifying to see such activity taking place in the USA, where the world economy and politics are shaped.

Hisarcıklıoğlu pointed out that 2015 will be a critical time for the Turkish people as it is the centennial anniversary of the alleged Armenian genocide. Thanking TAA for their efforts in this regard and requesting that they keep up the work they have been doing, the TOBB President said, “A decision which may be made in 2015 in the USA may seriously damage relations between Turkey and the USA. The government may make its own policy but in this instance, we are in need of the efforts of the NGOs.”

TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu also thanked the Rethink Institute for their contributions to the work on the constitution in Turkey. Reminding that TOBB also has been working regarding the constitution, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “It is gratifying to have an institution in the USA undertaking these works.”
