Speaking at the “Difference of Alliance” high level discussion of the Alliance of Civilizations Partners Forum held under Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s patronage, TOB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “There’s a world of consumption, an increasing world population and as a result, a world of increasing unhappiness. The most important problems in the world are poverty and privation. World trade must be liberated in order to reach prosperity. And peace is needed for trade.”​

 

Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that the world’s population increases by 74 million every year. Reporting that in view of the economic developments of the last 10 years, 1.5 billion people have transitioned from least developed economies to medium income societies, Hisarcıklıoğlu said that this means the number of consumers has increased by 1.5 billion.

Stating that significant problems such as food and water await the world, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “There’s a world of consumption, an increasing world population and as a result, a world of increasing unhappiness. The most important problems in the world are poverty and privation. World trade must be liberated in order to reach prosperity. And peace is needed for trade.”

Hisarcıklıoğlu, stating that in order to reach prosperity, effort must be expended to reach a world where people are happy and content with their jobs and went on, “Peace and serenity in the Middle East will affect peace and serenity throughout the world.”

Hisarcıklıoğlu, reminding that they have established the Ankara Forum to bring the business worlds of Israel and Palestine, stated that Palestine has one of the world’s highest unemployment rates – approximately 54%.

Reporting that they are working towards a project to provide employment to 10,000 people in Palestine, Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that the EU has requested of the Turkish business world for the establishment of a new enterprise which would bring European and Turkish entrepreneurs in Egypt, Tunisia and Palestine.

Stating that economic ties must be established in order to build trust between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Hisarcıklıoğlu said that the main reason for the strengthening of relations, of the end of hostilities is mutual economic dependency.

Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that they are undertaking programs to support the development of women’s entrepreneurship in Islamic countries and that he believes that they will succeed in this endeavor.

In reply to the question regarding the establishment of the Turkish-Islamic Union, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “Many regional alliances ensure safety and economic development. Turkey must be party to regional cooperation in its region in order to remain strong. This union is required.”

- Multi-religion and multilingual countries

Director General of the International Organization for Migration, William Lacy Swing pointed out that in compared to any time in history, humans are moving very rapidly throughout the world, that technology has trivialized distances.

Swing stated that multi-religion, multilingual and multicultural countries will no longer be the exception in the world, instead becoming the norm.

Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, the President of the Sixty-sixth session of the United Nations General Assembly, stated that the role of the Alliance of Civilizations in this period is very important and that Turkey is a very active member.

Al-Nasser stated that they see the role of the Alliance is growing among the nation states of the UN and said that the Alliance of Civilizations recognizes the importance of the role of youth and women.

During the meeting BMW Group Economic and Political Affairs Vice President Bill McAndrews, former Gulbenkian Foundation President Emilio Rui Vilar also provided information regarding their work.
