TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu attended the opening of the TOBB Science High School as part of his Şanlıurfa visit. Also attending the ceremony were TOBB Board Vice President Faik Yavuz, TOBB Board Member Mehmet Ali Kuseyri, many chamber and exchange presidents and businessmen.

In his speech Hisarcıklıoğlu stated his gratitude to the Şanlıurfa Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Şanlıurfa Commerce Exchange for their help and great contribution to the construction of the school and said, regarding the contributions of TOBB, “We only primed the effort.”

Stating that TOBB schools have become a brandname, Hisarcıklıoğlu remarked that Turkey has a very important young population potential and if this potential is properly utilized through education the coming century will belong to Turkey.

Hisarcıklıoğlu advised the young students to never shy away from dreaming and set themselves according to their dreams, saying, “Don’t forget about goals, dreams and hard work. Those who achieve these three succeed.”

Emphasizing the importance they put on the education of young girls, the TOBB President stated that those who educate girls well educate the family as well and said, “If you educate the family you educate society.”

Hisarcıklıoğlu urged the youth to innovate through inventions and to learn foreign languages.

TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu chatted at length with the students while touring the TOBB Science High School after his opening speech. Upon learning that most of the students want to be doctors in the future, Hisarcıklıoğlu expressed his pleasure but asked them not to disregard engineering and the sciences and give due consideration to entrepreneurship.

- Şanlıurfa Governor

Şanlıurfa Governor Celalettin Güvenç stated in his speech that the Turkish business world has made a very apt investment and thanked the TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu. Governor Güvenç reported that Şanlıurfa is the 4th largest province in Turkey with 668,000 students in terms of education. Güvenç emphasized Turkey’s need for modern high technology.

After the speeches, Governor Celalettin Güvenç presented TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu with a plaque for his contributions while Hisarcıklıoğlu presented him with a plaque commemorating the occasion. A commemorative picture was also taken afterwards.
