Turkish entrepreneurs research investment opportunities in China

The businessmen who went to China with the Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, under TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu’s lead assessed investment and cooperation opportunities. The 300 strong committee traveled to china under the organization of DEİK and coordinated by the Ministry of Economy consists of ministers, parliament members, bureaucrats, NGO presidents, businessmen, academics and press. Visits were made to Urumqi, Peking and Shanghai.​

 

- Urumqi visit

The Urumqi region was visited for the first time by the Turkish Prime Minister. The committee visited Urumqi on April 8th, 2012. Upon touring the renewable energy systems production centers, Chinese businessmen were invited to invest in Turkey.

- Peking visit

On April 10th the Turkish-Chinese Business Forum was held by DEİK and Chinese Machinery and Electronic Products Imports and Exports Commerce Chamber with the attendance of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Wang Qichan and approximately 600 guests.

Wang said that after the diplomatic relations were established between Turkey and China 41 years ago and that cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, tourism and infrastructure were developing successfully; especially in the last 10 years where bilateral trade has increased by 18 times its previous value.

- Praise for Turkey from Quishan

Stating that Turkey is moving with conviction towards its goal to becoming one of the 10 biggest economies of the world by 2023, Qishan reminded that  China is implementing its 12th Five Year Development Plan which would reshape China’s economy and continue economic growth. Quishan said, “In the long term we must increase our cooperation in the fields of transportation, energy and communication, infrastructure with a focus on railway construction, nuclear energy, aeronautics and space industry and energy efficiency.”

Stating that there is much work to be done with the revitalization of the Silk Road, signing of the bilateral investment preservation revision agreement, increasing tourism and financial cooperation, increasing trade volume to 50 billion Dollars by 2015 and 100 billion Dollars by the year 2020, Qishan said that they are ready to work together with the Turkish government to provide the necessary environment for bilateral cooperation.

- Prime Minister Erdoğan stated Turkey’s advantages

Prime Minister Erdoğan stated that Turkey and China are ancient civilizations and emphasized the deep rooted history of their friendship. Stating that Turkey has many advantages and resources due to its geographical position, Erdoğan said that he hopes for the development of political, economic, social and cultural cooperation between China and Turkey, the two countries which continued to grow during the crisis.

During the meeting DEİK Executive Committee President Rona Yırcalı and CCME President Yujian stated that they are ready to provide all support to the private sector in order to increase bilateral trade relations and investment.

After the meetings Chinese and Turkish businessmen held a networking dinner.

- Shanghai visit

The Turkish private sector committee attended a briefing regarding doing business in China on the 11th of April in Shanghai. During the meeting representatives of CCPIT, DEİK Business Council, İş Bank, Garanti Bank and the Trade Attaché made presentations.
