Seyit Ardıç, Member of the Board of Directors representing the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB), attended the “Exiting Coal in Germany: Learning from the German Experience” meeting organized by the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Türkiye (TEPAV) was attended by Seyit Ardıç, Member of the Board of Directors representing the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB). Ardıç said that the most important element of green transformation and carbon reduction is the “source of energy” and that the experience of countries such as Germany on coal phase-out will make a great contribution while preparing a road map on fossil resources.

Seyit Ardıç stated that climate change is more than an economic and trade policy, it is a problem of sustaining the existence of human beings and that the green transformation process should be viewed from this perspective. “We must accept the idea that we need to change our lifestyle and consumption habits,” said Ardıç, adding that industrialists have a lot of work to do in this regard.

Pointing out that European Union (EU) countries are constantly renewing their legislation for an environmentally sustainable world, Ardıç said, “EU countries are renewing their legislation every day and publishing new standards for products and services. They want products to be produced in a more environmentally friendly way with minimum waste. For example, they are working on a digital product passport regulation. Information such as the environmental impact of a product, the amount of recycled products, reparability will be revealed and the consumer will make their choice in this direction.”

Seyit Ardıç stated that Türkiye is in a good position compared to many countries in terms of being able to produce from renewable energy sources and said, “At the point we have reached, it is very important for our industrial organizations to be able to produce their own energy, to benefit from solar energy and wind energy.”

He also emphasized the importance of hydrogen technologies in the green transformation and pointed out the importance of the renewable hydrogen energy roadmap of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.

During the meeting, a panel discussion was held where experts from Germany shared their experiences.

The meeting ended with the representatives from the sector discussing the coal phase-out process in Türkiye.
