Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey

Prior to the BSEC-URTA General Assembly, a site visit was carried out at Sarp-Sarpi Customs Gate together with United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Officials, International Road Transport Union (IRU) Secretary General, Turkish and Georgian Ministry Officials and Member Country Organization Officials.

During the visit, the importance of this border crossing for the efficient functioning of Eurasian trade was highlighted and initiatives were taken to speed up border crossings through solutions such as digitalization and a common checkpoint. In addition, an “IRU Grand Prix d'Honneur” award was presented to a driver from the earthquake zone to recognize the collective courage and commitment of professional drivers to continue to serve during epidemics, conflicts and natural disaster rescue and relief operations, despite risks to their own lives.

At the General Assembly, officials from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe provided updates on e-TIR and exchanged views on digitalization projects. In addition, the importance of digitalization was once again emphasized.
