Education Council discusses what can be done for students after the earthquake

The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) Education Council Meeting was held at the İstanbul Service Building with the intense interest of high-level representatives of the private sector and non-governmental organizations under the chairmanship of Council Speaker Dr. Yusuf Ekinci.​

Council President Dr. Yusuf Ekinci, started his speech by praying for the grace of Allah for our citizens who lost their lives in the earthquake that affected 11 provinces, including Kahramanmaraş, which took place on February 6, 2023, and deeply shook our country, and expressed condolences to those who were left behind.

Stating that unity and solidarity are needed more than ever, Ekinci emphasized that the convening of the Council despite the tragic incident was valuable in terms of discussing what can be done for the residents and students in the region.

Referring to the damages in some of the branches of the private schools, courses, publishers, driving schools, special education and rehabilitation centers represented in the Council, the Members shared their observations about the earthquake region visits by mentioning that difficult days will be overcome together.

Referring to the fact that private schools opened their doors for earthquake victim children, private school representatives gave information about the misafirogrenci.org platform created by 6 Associations in cooperation with the Türkiye Private Schools Association, which is a member of the Council, the Association of All Private Education Institutions, the Association of Private Education Institutions, the Association of Special Education Institutions, the Association of Private Education Institutions and the Ankara Education Platform.

Stating that the Guest Student System was created to enable students affected by the two earthquakes in our 10 provinces to study with full scholarships (education, food, books) in the second semester of the 2022-2023 academic year, sector representatives stated that the platform allows the announcement of private schools and related scholarship quotas included in the said system.

Referring to the necessary conditions for students who want to benefit from the guest student quota, the private school representatives agreed that the wounds would be healed together, and stated that as of the moment of the meeting, 2,556 private schools were waiting for 29,924 guest students and expressed their support for all the children who came.

In the presentation of Educational Technologies made by Serçe Academy Founders Mert Doğan and Ulaş Nezir, the activities, contents and academy processes of Serçe Academy were shared with the Council Members.
