Maritime Council Meeting held

The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB) Maritime Council Meeting was held in İstanbul under the chairmanship of the Council President, Recep Düzgit.​

In the meeting, the difficulties faced by the sector throughout the Russian-Ukrainian war, the measures to be taken and the impact on container transportation were evaluated.

In addition, transit transshipments and the coordination of ports and customs in this process were discussed. It was decided to take an initiative to improve the warehouse declaration processes in import transactions. Falling freight rates, costs and changes in the sector, especially container transportation, were evaluated.

As the third agenda item, Council Members exchanged views on the implementation of the digital process that will enable all stakeholders of the sector to work on a common platform in foreign trade transactions.

The meeting ended by referring to the implementation of the directive on the fees of Pilotage and Tugboat and Mooring Services, which entered into force on September 1st, 2022, in January 2023, to find solutions to reduce fuel prices, to establish logistics centers and to develop combined transportation.
