Speaking at the opening of the workshop, TOBB Board Member Ömer Zeydan pointed out that sustainable agricultural development, food security and poverty reduction are among the most important goals of governments and development institutions around the world.

Stating that the increasing population and the increase in demand for agricultural products with the pandemic caused the necessity of investing in agriculture, rural infrastructure, natural resource management and to provide resistance to climate change, Ömer Zeydan said, “Within the scope of the cooperation between TOBB and FAO to understand the risk management needs of small-scale business owners in our country, tools to manage risks at the enterprise and society level (Climate-based smart agriculture, Diversification of products and enterprises, Asset and income-based strategies), Finance-related Risk Management Tools (Agricultural insurance, weather indexed insurance, Agricultural Finance and market-related risk management tools (Contract agriculture, Product Exchanges and Futures Market and Product Stock System) were discussed as extremely important issues for the agricultural sector of our country.”

Explaining that with the vision of TOBB President Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, very important steps have been taken for the development of agricultural trade in Türkiye as TOBB, Zeydan said, “Today, our Commodity Exchanges have become the most reliable place where the producer can sell his product at the real price with their laboratory investments, electronic sales halls and licensed warehouse investments. TMO-TOBB Lidaş, which was established in 2010 to encourage the private sector to invest after the Licensed Warehousing Law enacted in 2005, has reached a capacity of 406,000 tons in 8 regions today.”

Zeydan reported that the licensed warehouse capacity in Türkiye is approaching 8.7 million tons, and the Turkish Product Specialized Exchange, a subsidiary of TOBB, has reached a transaction volume of TL 50 billion.
