TOBB discusses Turkish industry's fight against climate crisis at COP26

The 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference is underway in Glasgow. In this context, a panel titled “Towards Zero Emission - Initiatives of the Turkish Private Sector,” was held by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) in the side events organized.​

Various presentations were made by representatives of TOBB-affiliated sectoral councils at the panel moderated by Saygın Baban, head of TOBB Sectors and Entrepreneurship Department.

Speaking on behalf of the Turkish Maritime Council, Mehtap Özdemir, Secretary General of the Turkish Shipbuilding Industrialists Association, made the presentation, “Towards Decarbonization – Challenging ECO Ships Delivered by Turkish Shipbuilding Industry,” and talked about developments in decarbonization in the maritime sector.

Speaking on behalf of the Automotive Industry Council of Turkey after Mehtap Özdemir, Meral Turan Akırmak, Environmental Coordinator of the Automotive Industry Association, gave information about the actions taken by the automotive industry in the face of the climate crisis and the transformation of the industry.

Finally, on behalf of the Turkey Glass and Glass Products Industry Council, Şişecam Sustainability Director Bahar Ubay Güçlüsoy made a presentation and talked about the potential of the glass sector in the fight against the climate crisis.

After answering the questions from the participants, the panel ended.

Following the panel, representatives of TOBB and sector councils exchanged information with Mr. Murat Kurum, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, and Minister Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Birpınar.
