''Turkey is shining again''

25.12.2010 / YALOVA

TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, in his speech at the awards ceremony “Leaders of the Business World 2010” and “Yalova Innovation 2010” organised by the Yalova Chamber of Commerce and Industry (YTSO) at the Thermalium Hotel in Termal, said that Turkey is among the most quickly recovered countries of the 2009 crisis. “Turkey is shining again. Turkey’s aircraft is in the take-off" Hisarcıklıoğlu said.

Hisarcıklıoğlu expressed great satisfaction due to the fact that after the crisis 16 of 208 countries have returned to their pre-crisis conditions and Turkey is the one of them.

Hisarcıklıoğlu said “Turkey is one of the 16 countries in the world. She has outdone her pre-crisis level. Turkey is ranked 12th among these 16 countries. It is not possible to overlook this but our dream, our goal is beyond this. Our goal is to be in the top 10 largest economies in the world at the 100th anniversary of the Republic in 2023. And then to become number one. If this is our goal, we should ask why we are ranked 12th not 6th, 7th or 1st. We don’t need to be pessimistic. Our future is very bright.”

Hisarcıklıoğlu, stressing that the biggest contribution to overcoming the crises has come from the private sector, said “as Turkish private sector we provided 1 million jobs in the last 1 year. 320 thousands of those were in the industry sector. We both increase our work force and become a part of the recorded economy as private sector. This is a great success story.

When we look at this crisis, it is seen that this is completely due to our skills we have overcome it. We made it by 72 million in solidarity. In the 3rd quarter of 2010 Turkey grew 8.9 percent. Here the private consumption share is 59 percent. A 9 percent growth rate has been achieved as a results of the consumption of 72 million people.”

Hisarcıklıoğlu pointed out that striking increase in import appears to be the primary problem of Turkey and during this period there is an excess of imports over exports.

Hisarcıklıoğlu, highlighting the importance of the competitive structure, said: ''If it were not the case, growth would have been 12.5 percent. This would also mean that Turkey would be ranked first in the world. So we need to deal with this import issue together. We need to render our industry more competetive.”

-''The Sun is rising from the east again''

Hisarcıklıoğlu, stating that Turkey’s future is bright, said “as Turkey, we are ranked 16th largest economy in the world. You should be proud of this. 30 years ago we were ranked 25th. If we have a goal, we should do some fixes. Turkey is shining again. Turkey’s aircraft is in the take-off.

The sun is rising from the east again. When the sun comes upon us if we are ready, we will catch the sun again. There is a nice saying “History smiles to those are ready.” If you are ready, a great chance comes upon you.

Turkey's west was used to be the center of world production last century, now it passed to Turkey's east. 51 percent of world production is in the east of Turkey. Let's look around us, a $ 9.4 trillion market is looking at us. It is within 3 hours distance to us. There is a great opportunity. Turkey is the largest industrial country between Italy and China. We should capitalise on this.''

At the ceremony attended by Dursun Ali Şahin Governor of Yalova, Major of Yalova Yakup Koçal, Rector of the University of Yalova Dr. Niyazi Eruslu, Vice Chairman of TOBB Tanıl Küçük, TOBB Chairman of the Board of Women Entrepreneurs Aynur Bektaş and YTSO President Celal Özel, the top income and corporation tax payers awards were given to the individuals and institutions.
