During the meeting, issues regarding discrepancies in summary declarations and practices related to full and empty containers were discussed by the council members. Discussions focused on discrepancies in fuel quantities on foreign-flagged vessels and their causes, fines imposed on agents, and the competitive disadvantage resulting from high rates of physical and X-ray inspections of transit and transshipment containers. The impacts of these practices on the sector were also discussed.
While the issue of shipping agency services not being classified as foreign exchange-generating services and activities was raised, industry expectations regarding the acceleration of the Mersin Main Container Port project were expressed. In addition, proposals addressing the need for shipyards in the Eastern Mediterranean were evaluated, and views were exchanged on increasing regional capacity.
Regarding the issues raised at the meeting, public officials stated that the matters were being followed up by the relevant departments.
