In his opening speech, TOBB Board Member Zeki Kıvanç pointed out that 2025 was a year of intense change on a global scale, emphasizing that economic fluctuations and the effects of climate change were decisive factors in the paper sector. He stated that many companies in the sector have focused on investments aimed at increasing recycling rates this year, with environmentally friendly production processes coming to the fore. Concluding his speech with his wishes for 2026, Kıvanç expressed his hope that the meeting would yield beneficial results for the sector and thanked all participants.
At the meeting, Elif Berrak Taşyürek, representative of the Ministry of Trade, provided information on the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Issues encountered at ports regarding scrap paper imports were discussed with contributions from Cenk Burak Altay, Head of the Import and Origin Department at the Ministry of Trade, and Semin Altuntaş Özdemir, Deputy Director at the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change.
The meeting concluded with a briefing by Volkan Palaz, General Manager of TOBB Trade Centers Inc., on the Trade Center in Chicago.
