18.06.2019 / Eskişehir

The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) with the support of the Ministry of Commerce, under the auspices of Vodafone Turkey and with Akbank’s sponsorship “Turkey Technology Meetings” event was held in Eskişehir.

TOBB Board Member Ömer Zeydan, in his speech regarding, “digital conversion for SMEs, e-commerce, e-exports” at the event in Vehbi Koç Convention Center, stated that youth in command of technology, who can see the coming digital age would shape the future of Turkey.

Stating that Turkey's current account deficit and unemployment problems could be resolved by investing in the digital economy, e-commerce and particularly e-exports, Zeydan said:

“Globally, e-commerce volume has reached 2.8 trillion USD. Around a quarter of this volume is in the form of e-exports. Soon, global e-commerce will reach 4 trillion USD while e-exports will reach 1 trillion USD. While Turkey's economy is currently narrowing, we can calculate e-commerce volume will reach a volume of 70 billion in 2019 as it continues to grow. Turkey's goal should be to get a larger share of the global e-commerce pie. Our market share in e-commerce in the world economy is about 1% at the moment. We have to increase it.”
