The TOBB Defense Industry Council, under the presidency of Yılmaz Küçükseyhan, visited the Minister of Science, Industry and Technology, Nihat Ergün at his office. Informing Minister Ergün about the works of the Council and the developments in the sector, Küçükseyhan relayed the assessments of the council regarding the problems of the sector.​

 

- The sector’s 2010 endorsements have exceeded 3 billion dollars

Küçükseyhan, stating that with the offset of the aerospace industry in 2010, the endorsements have exceeded 3 billion dollars and said that Turkey with its 853 billion dollar export is among the top 15 defense industry exporters. Stating that for the first time, Turkey is considered a rising power in the defense industry, Küçükseyhan drew attention to the fact that Turkey has lowered its defense imports by increasing its domestic production to over 50% and has moved from the 3rd country with most defense imports down to 14th.

- Council – Ministry Cooperation

Minister of Science, Industry and Technology, Nihat Ergün stated that, as an effect of the synergy emergent in the country as a whole, “When Turkey’s dynamic structure is taken into account, I believe that the defense industry’s figures should increase.” Saying that it would please them, as a Ministry, to cooperate with the defense industry, Ergün said, “The public administrations should make more use of the unique technologies produced from the results of the defense industry’s R&D projects.” Minister Ergün stated that sectoral meetings were required to ensure the necessary cooperation and coordination.
